Paperless-ngx is a privacy respecting open-source self-hosted document management solution
This is a great solution for scanning or uploading any documents, images, e-mails, etc into your own self-hosted solution for home or business use. Nothing is shared out to other services, and being self-hosted, it's not going to get hacked in someone's cloud either.
All documents are OCR'd for full text searching, and separately saved into PDF/A format.
It's a great way to organise all your family, or business, receipts, contracts, images, equipment manuals, e-mails, etc so that anyone with the permissions in the family or team can find them later.
If being organised is not your thing, I also do a quick demo at the end of a good full-text desktop indexer/searcher, as an alternative, that wi...

    Thanks for the video. Great overview over this piece of software ! I'm trying to find a way to make a hotkey toggle for my Elgato pedal. When i press the pedal once, i want to have "w" pressed until i press the pedal again to have it off. Any chance to configure this ? In Windows Elgato software it was possible.

      @GadgeteerZA 3 дня назад

      I'm sure it can be done I just don't have the pedal. It will be a question of sensing the input from the pedal when pressed and held down. I think there was a keydown type action (vs press). Can you try joining the Discord channel at discord.gg/mvUXrN29 where you can chat directly to all the others users as well as the devs?

      Sorry I'm already rusty on StreamController as been testing another alternative out the last 4 weeks. But I see StreamController has toggles for 'Repeat while holding button (pedal)' and it has 'Hold until release' actions for hotkeys. If you want to toggle this though between separate presses the idea is probably to add a 2nd state. For each press it will run hotkey for State 1, then next press State 2, next press State 1 again. Alternatively you can sue the super powerful xdotool command (or if on Wayland then ydotool) using the button action OS - Run Command. Reason is xdotool has a command (think its keydown) that can execute on State 1 to press and keep something held. Then State 2 action would run xdotool with keyup to release the key. I've used this for games where you have to keep holding a key for repairs to get done, but I could get on with other actions like shooting etc knowing the key stays pressed until I toggle it off.

Other thing I use is Synching but it is intended more for some set folders being synced to another device, and not really ad-hoc file transfer. Hi Danie, thank you very much for putting a great deal of effort on explaining NextCloud. I found it very interesting. I have a few questions though. 1 Is there any app on NextCloud for archiving files? 2. Can you do another video on how Mail is setup or show the features it has? 3. With Data Sovereignty, what are other options if I dont want my data to be stored in Germany while Im in Oceania, can I host NextCloud on-premise? What are requirements for on-premise setup?

    • @GadgeteerZA
      @GadgeteerZA 17 дней назад

      OK hope this can help a bit: 1. All NextCloud's apps I'm aware of are at apps.nextcloud.com/. I don't see an archiving one specifically although the scanning apps may help upload. You can tweak some settings maybe on NextCloud for extra versions, tagging, etc otherwise. But also look at my latest video about Paperless-ngx which is a proper dedicated archiving tool. 2. I've not used the Mail app but as far as I know all those apps in NextCloud are mail client apps that connect to an external hosted SMTP server elsewhere. I use Proton Mail myself with Thunderbird on my PC. Private hosting of your own SMTP mail server can be a big pain as often port 25 or others are blocked, and many of the big players end up blocking your IP for mail. 3. Yes NextCloud can be hosted anywhere from a VPS server, to a PC, or server. I host it in Docker. I did another video about hosting from home which may help - ruclips.net/video/DZRG2sezIl4/видео.html Hope it gets you going in the right direction

I'm really focussing more on awareness about what functions a particular app can offer and what features it have, for people wondering whether it is something they can use. Many people already do how to install etc videos. Memories is especially finicky as it is one app sitting on top of another e.g. comments are particularly difficult. In essence you upload inside Nextcloud into directories if you wish, and then in Memories you click on Albums on the left, and the + symbol at top right of the screen to craete a new album.

What would have been a lot better was to for example build in its own commenting system within the Memories app, instead of just relying on NextCloud's comments which get used elsewhere. I would also like to have seen it stand more alone with everything inside the app, and maybe just storing the photos in the NextCloud folders. Hello Danie, thanks for explaning how to use LocalSend. I have one question if I may: do you happen to know how to select multiple photos when sending from an iPad. In my case I have Lets say 100 photos and in order to send them all, I have to select them individually and I don’t find a button to select them all. Thanks for your advise. Kind regards. Herman

      No, sorry there is no select all that I know of. But you can touch multiple photos to select two or three at a single touch, which may help a bit.

    Hello. I can't record my PC video game screen under Windows 10. I play "War Thunder". When I start recording with this freeware it only records the Windows screen and no the in game video. How can I do this please?

    • @GadgeteerZA
      @GadgeteerZA 2 месяца назад

      Always good to hear from another War Thunder player ;-) OK I'd try switching it's video capture between fullscreen, window and area. Window for example needs focus on the window itself but the other two modes may work better. I noticed on my PC if I click on anything else, War Thunder minimises. I actually used OBS Studio last time I did some captures for War Thunder.

    One thing I've found that it doesn't work if any of the device is connected to a guest network. Both of the device must be connected to a primary or non guest network to make any transfer. Or is it maybe cause my guest network doesn't have any password so it thinks it's not secure to make a transfer. There must be some kind of error message that explains what might be wrong. It took me a while to figure these. Edit: Few things yet I am not confirmed is that if it can transfer without any wifi plan thats active. Or any huge files. Or can it transfer through a network created by a mobile hotspot, etc.

    • @GadgeteerZA
      @GadgeteerZA 2 месяца назад

      No it won't know about passwords, but both devices do need to be on the same LAN or accessible between local networks. So if your guest network is isolated and only has Internet access (no visibility) of other devices on local network) then it won't be able to establish a local connection. Same goes for a mobile hotspot - those connect out to the Internet only. LocalSend keeps things local for better security. If a device connects to the local WiFi on your router, it should see other devices on your network fine. Guest networks can be setup often to see other devices, but not everyone wants that active.

    • @GadgeteerZA
      @GadgeteerZA 2 месяца назад

      OK all your settings sound right. The only way to see is if people have publish to map on then they'll appear at meshmap.net/ if they have a location set as well. Right now I'm not seeing anyone but the thing is to leave one of your nodes on so that others may see you. You'll also see them appear in your nodes list if at any time they are seen by your radio. You could also try going to any location that has a view over the city, and run your radio from there for 15 to 20 mins and see if you see any others.

Just bear in mind whether you are in the Europe Africa region for 868MHz or the USA which I think is 915MHz.

    youtube.com/@GadgeteerZA Thanks for the overview, we're also looking using the hardware up in the Pretoria region, would be great to get into contact to understand where and how you sourced your hardware and any advice to get up and running with a permanent gateway/node acting as a relay in the area.

    • @GadgeteerZA
      @GadgeteerZA 3 месяца назад

      Sorry I see now your comment got held for review (no idea why). But we did get in contact. Yes definitely a high site though if possible, as it really gets all nodes in contact with each other. For example in Cape Town we have one node higher up (can't say exactly where yet as paperwork must be approved) and it connected me (on Cape Flats) to a node in Stellenbosch 32 km away. Other thing in the beginning is to maybe increase max hops to 5 or 7 so that you can reach further through some nodes until you have a few in the area and then drop it again. But I have one node above my roof and one in the house so that already uses one additional hop. I did also describe my home setup in my webpage at gadgeteer.co.za/hamradio/meshtastic-in-south-africa/ as well as some sources. The ham radio guys have been quite keen to get involved so it may be worth trying to get in contact with one or two in the area. You can reach them at www.parc.org.za/ and maybe ask they announce something about Meshtastic to their members. I wrote an article in the Radio ZS magazine for hams in the May 2024 edition about Meshtastic. We try to also at least have the MQTT uplink enabled for Channel 0 the LongFast channel, so that locations are advertised at meshmap.net/ for others to see where the nodes are.

      Thank you! I'm using Manjaro Linux with the KDE desktop it has various Desktop Effects and this one was called Track Mouse which you can enable or disable with a shortcut key combo. No sorry I'd not done on audio filters for OBS as I struggled a bit myself - I did do some filters for the microphone but it was pretty complex (after watching other videos) and I do find it can be a bit choppy especially if I run many other things in the background (clearly the more filters, the more processing). But I'm using the basic included filters in OBS for Noise Gate, Noise Suppression, Compressor, Expander, Gain, and Limiter.
